Kidnapped father of Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel was released today after detectives failed to find it in Northern Nigeria, and arrested his kidnappers.
Police spokesman Olusola Amore said that traces of Michael Obi had been traced to Kano city, where he was held captive.
Agents John Obi Mikel confirmed the news: "Michael Obi called his family to their announced that it has been released."
Michael Obi was kidnapped on August 12 in the city of Jos. This is not the first time that a family member of a famous footballer is kidnapped. In 2008 Joseph Yobo's brother was taken captive in Port Harcourt, two weeks later - released, although it was not clear whether this happened after payment of ransom.
