In Alaska, started 39 th edition of the longest race in the world dog harness Ayditarod, told The Associated Press and ITAR-TASS.
The event involved 62 riders, of which 46 are Alaska, 8 are from other States and the rest are from Canada, Norway, New Zealand and Jamaica.
The route of the race is 1850 kilometers long. Sporting event was founded in 1973 in honor of a dramatic race against time in 1925, when dogs and coachmen joined efforts to deliver lifesaving drugs to Eskimos in the town of noumena, which suffered from diphtheria.
This champion Lance McKee will try to win a fifth consecutive victory. Last year he finished first in eight days, 23 hours and 59 minutes.
