Last summer, the 71-year-old Hockey Hall of Famer announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The video cube showed a special video in honor of the Leafs defender of many years. Salming took part in a symbolic face-off before the game.
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe put out a Swedish top five for the opening faceoff in his honour.
Defenders Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren took to the ice, forwards William Nylander, Pierre Engvall and Kalle Jernkruk. The gate was also defended by the Swede - Eric Kehlgren.

Salming played for Toronto from 1973 to 1989. He also has one season with Detroit (1989/90). In total, he scored 787 (150 + 637) points in 1, 148 NHL games.
In 1996, he became the first Swede to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
He holds the all-time leading Leafs defenseman in goals (148), assists (620) and points (768).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, incurable degenerative disease of the central nervous system in which both upper and lower motor neurons are affected, leading to paralysis and subsequent muscle atrophy.
