Martin O'Neill: Power is on the players not the clubs23-03-2011 |
Former Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill said during a parliamentary inquiry into soccer in England, that power is no longer in clubs and in the players.
The manager said that example is Wayne Rooney. English football wanted to leave Manchester United last October and eventually signed a new five-year contract for a much larger transfer fee and a much higher salary.
Martin O'Neill added that the control is no longer held by the football clubs and the players and their agents.
According to him, when he was a footballer players did not have the word "and now everything is reversed is 100 percent."
Martin O'Neill surprisingly quit Aston Villa before the start of the season, and now a team Stilian Petrov occupies 14 th place with 33 points.
